This all sounds really, really good. I don’t know that I have anything more to offer at this point. Might be best to see what you and the psych folks come up with. If there happens to be a grad student hungry for a research project, that might take care of a good bit of the program development costs, too. Once something is developed I could approach the psych hospitals and support groups here and hopefully find plenty of participants -- and subjects for the research, if anybody is interested.
In addition -- I don't think they would do it for free, but there is a counseling service here who have developed social skills training for adolesents with Asperger's Syndrome. I talked to them about myself several years ago and they would have given me some individual counseling, at a hefty fee. That didn't seem like anything that would help much. But they are connected with a private university and that might be a good connection, too. Have a good night!! |

i'm not sure if you can "get rid of it" or not; but i know there is help out there. my therapist thinks i may may have it, but i have not been officially diagnosed. i go to mental health every week. i see my therapist every tuesday, have anxiety reduction group on mondays, depression and stress group on thursdays, and see my psychiatrist once a month.

Wow! That's the way I feel about women, and I'm a man. Everyone thinks I'm gay because of it. Thanks for your post; it's an eye-opener for me.

I wonder myself sometimes if it is possible to completely get rid of the AVPD symptoms for my self.
All I can say that really started me down the path of managing my huge emotions related to avoiding was DBT skills classes. If you have a therapist ask about the classes and if they are offered in your area. It gives a lot of insight into how to handle emotions and the way our brains work in response to large emotional experiences that drive our habits and choices. The skills I learned helped alot. But for the skills to work and stick in your mind it does take alot of practice but it is so worth it... Take care |

No there isn't, that's why it's called a disorder, it's there for the rest of your life and the best you can do is live with it.

I seriously doubt it. But I think it can be managed and you learn ways around it, learn to change at least some of your behavior. Do you ever feel any differently, I don't know. Perhaps it's happened before.
