I have no DX but am pretty sure, besides ADD, I suffer with AVPD. Every day it's the same routine for me - disappear and avoid any human contact. The other day I went to a community event where I knew a number of people - and to me, avoiding everyone was my main goal - like running into someone was like stepping in a pile of poop. Tomorrow, family is arriving for Thanksgiving - and all I can think about is counting the days/hours before everyone is gone & I can crawl back into my hole.

I'm lucky as I trained myself during highschool to start handling larger social events better - so I can navigate them easily. But then, I do tend to stick around one or two people. I only go to someone new when I start to think I'm annoying or bothering the person I'm with. I can even enjoy myself now!
Sometimes. Other times, especially if it's not really something I WANTED to go to, I just time-watch until I'm able to get out there. Especially family or work events. I just want to get out. And if I panic, that is precisely what I do... haha. I flee the scene. __________________ "The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things. Which is really ridiculous when you consider how amazing I am. |

I know how it feels! Well we cannot really be sure if you truly have Avoidant personality disorder without a proper diagnosis. So you might want to get that diagnosed! It's worth it, after you get diagnosed you could get some therapy which could help you feel less like you currently feel. One thing you could do is focus on your breathing and try to distract yourself, in these big family meetings I usually try to prepare all my conversations beforehand so I won't have to make anything up!
I wish you luck for Thanksgiving! __________________ Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal. ~Albert Camus In the end, everything will be okay. If it's not okay, it's not the end. |
