Wow, I have just read up on Avoidant Personality Disorder, and I am thinking why has not anyone - friend, fo, or doctor, within my 54 years of life ever tell me about this? I have never heard about it! This is so me! Most of the time, I do not like being around other people. I know that depression can make these feelings worse and these feelings can make the depression worse. If/when I am manic, I am completely opposite. I like myself and everyone around me. I am happy. So I ask you what should be our NORMAL behavior? Why do they try so hard to help us get back to our normal behavior. If we had any sense about us, wouldn't we choose the HAPPY behaviors? I know I would like it better!

I think that bipolar/AvPD can overlap. I have hypomanic episodes (but not mania and a very long time since glorious hypomania). I don't really have a "normal" time where I am neither. Plus I hate dealing with people. Plus ***** life. Welcome!

I'm not diagnosed with AvPD but myself and my therapist think I am.
I am diagnosed bipolar 2. My depressions can be horrendous, my ups are fairly tame. I feel and act more like a "normal" person does as my self-worth and confidence are to the point of "Hey, I actually am a pretty good person!" vs my baseline which still has a very low self-worth. __________________ "The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things. Of shoes, of ships, of sealing wax, of cabbages, of kings! Of why the sea is boiling hot, of whether pigs have wings..." "I have a problem with low self-esteem. Which is really ridiculous when you consider how amazing I am. |

Magnate, I know exactly what you mean!! I am also bipolar 2 and the depression is very terrible, I usually have mixed episodes - mania and depression together - which is also horrific!! No normal states for me
