Hi, everyone!
I'm new in the forum and I wanted to greet people.
I was diagnosed with AvPD seven years ago, but I always felt there was something missing in me.
I have been dealing with this disorder following different kids of therapy, taking pills for anxiety and depressions since I had 25, after a seven years of completely isolation that caused a great damage to my social skills.
I always had a thing clear, what I had it wasn't only a social phobia. I knew it was something deeper that it had no cure but I want to give you some kind of hope.
You can learn to live with this disorder if you put some effort.

Therapy made a different for me. Am I free of my tendencies to avoid? Of course, I'm not; nontheless I'm a quite functioning person.

Since now, I apologize myself for any mistakes or error in my posts. English is a marvellous language but it's not my native tongue.

Thank you!

Hi AzulOscuro! I've wondered if I have AvPD also. I'm wondering if the clinician who misdiagnosed me meant to say that instead of what she did say. Anyway, thank you for the encouragement. How are you doing? Are you still self-isolated?

What did you were diagnosed with?
Psychiatrists used to diagnosed people with avoidance with anxiety or depressions but there are only deseases you can develop when you suffer from. AvPD.

Thank you very much for your interest.
I'm a pretty functioning avoidant now with my job and a partner.

I'm not officially diagnosed with AvPD, although my T believes that I have this.

The pdoc asked me the most simple and stupid questions ever the last time I saw him, and out of no where went "you don't have AvPD". I was like "wtf?" because I was in there to talk about meds for bipolar disorder, and my T and I had never discussed AvPD at that point.

See, the pdoc asked solely about behaviours. He asked simple questions, I gave simple answers. Why? Because I didn't want to be judged and I didn't want to annoy him by giving big long answers! If he knew how I thought, felt, and view the world then he might have thought differently...

But I trained most of my behaviours so that I'm functional and at least appear ok (which for me, means I've done everything I can to try to minimize how annoying I would be for someone else...). So I totally believe that it is possible too.

It just takes a loooonngg tiiimmmeee and a LOT of effort! And lots of frustration and feeling like quitting.

They said Borderline PD, and a few other things. I really should get copies of everything. It was in the hospital and they were pretty incompetent.

Well, we were talking about how important was for me getting a diagnosis. I guess other people don't want to know for the fact that running away from labels.
I think I was moré awared of how to improve since I had a name by which I could name my problem.
I discovered how many people had to face to similar feelings and experiences as me.

I would tell you that if you think it could help you, give another proffessional's diagnosis a try.
Anyway, I think Cognitive-Behavioural therapy is the best for both disorders: BPD and AvPD.

Nice to meet you all!
