I must make an appointment with an orthopedic Dr. for my wrist. Am I supposed to disclose my AvPD and SA for this appointment? I'm not on a medication for it ~ my lorazapam prescription expired a year ago, I've been 'toughing it out' and taking Inositol to sleep.

I'm leaning toward waiting to see if I 'wig out' (haven't gotten bad in public yet) and then say something to the Dr.? I also still have 1 lorazapam I saved for an emergency ~ maybe I should take it before we leave home? **of course THEN I have to bring UP the lorazapam on my list of meds/supplements... HELP, I'm driving myself mad...er....

i think you should disclose it. if you feel you need the extra help - go for it.

don't take the lorazapam before you see doc. you wanna be real as possible.

Forgive me but I didn't understand well the problem.
You have a pill of lorazepam for an emergency?
All I can tell you is trusting in doctors. If you need moré meds as lorazepan, ask him to prescribe it.
I also take lorazepan in emergencies. I don't think the doctor has any problem in prescribing it.

I apologize because I wanted to help you but I didn't understand very well.

If the doctor you are seeing is specifically for orthopedics, then you have no reason to disclose the AvPD. Why would they need to know that to treat your wrist? They don't.

You only need to disclose what medications you are taking. Other than that, if you're wanting medical assistance with the AvPD then you should make an appointment with your GD or a psychiatrist.

The only time I disclosed my psych diagnosis (and only one of them) was when I was still on medication for it. And the only reason I felt it necessary was because the mood stabilizer I was on for mood disorder NOS is, also, commonly used to treat epilepsy. So, I felt it important to let them know that I did not have epilepsy, as given the reason I was in the hospital that tidbit may have been important. Other than that, I have never felt it necessary to disclose my diagnoses. I would imagine I might need to disclose my eating disorder one day, but I can't think of an instance where AvPD would come up.

Azul: I meant I saved the last pill from my prescription of lorazapam. I can't get a refill without getting a full physical from the Physician's Assistant ~ which I don't want to do.

Thanks for the input I guess since I only recently discovered Avoidance disorder information, I wondered if others think it's something to be forthcoming about. I would be so nervous at the appointment without taking the lorazapam, I'm not going to chance it. It doesn't usually affect my cognitive functions.

You can go there without lorazepan. They are only going to see your wrist. You don't need to tell them that you take lorazepan. In the end, you only take it in case of emergency.

I will tell you what my psych told me some days ago. Take valerian. Two pills of valerian.

Anyway, I would go to the doctor or psychiatrist for him/her to follow your anxiety and your issues, so he can follow your case and take the right decissions. You don't need to tell him anything about AvPD. This is a personality disorder and has to be treated mainly with psychotherapy but the symtons of GA and social anxiety can also be treated meds, so he will know what to do. Trust in doctors. They studied all this. They know how to help you.
A hug!
