I have had many psychiatrists say that I have borderline traits. And then when I got personality testing it apparently showed that I only have avoidant personality traits.
I don't agree with avoidant traits because I think I act fine in social situations. The borderline I agree with completely. With 8 hospital admissions and serious self harm. As well as pent up anger. The only avoidance trait I really have is that I don't like criticism and I avoid close relationships because I'm scared of being hurt. Which is because of past relationships that have been really intense.
When I told my doctor that I don't understand how my self harm and suicidal duration fit into avoidant personality disorder and she said that I do it because I avoid feelings and thoughts and that is how they emerge. My self harm is also apparently an avoidant trait because I do it and then don't tell anyone. Which isn't a borderline trait. But I usually self harm as a threat in my mind. Like **** you I'm going to go self harm because you didn't do what I wanted you to do.
I'm just really confused about all the overlapping symptoms and would appreciate some clarity. Thank you.

I heard that personal interviews are much better than tests to diagnose a person. Or at least, both together.

How about going to another psychiatrist? Have you got this possibility?

I have seen so many psychiatrists in the hospital and now I'm in a treatment facility that only has one psychiatrist. I may ask to do another personality test to see if the answers are the same or different

I'm not surprised that you are confused. It is hard to determine a diagnosis even for doctors especially personality disorders.

You could always get a second opinion after you get out of the hospital.

Are just accept the diagnosis which could certainly be correct.

I agree with Gayleggg. It's pretty difficult to give an accurate diagnosis, mainly in personality disorders. It's often found traits of different personality disorders.
I neither have a lot of difficulty to mantain a social relation with people, unless in a superficial way, I mean, I'm not a shy woman. What I really find difficult is to go deeper with these people bc of my fear of being rejected or don't be liking.
What I want to mean is that an avoidant doesn't necessary have to be shy to be an avoidant.
I only have traits though, since my last diagnosis.

Which more borderline traits do you see in yourself?

Appart from what I have told you, I think that the best is to try all the issues you are being dealing with in therapy. For me, this is over a diagnoses.
