Thoughts anyone?

I wonder how much inexperienced clinicians may confuse these... or if they aren't competent to handle their countertransference (irl)

Yeah, I can't seem to find easy to understand literature on the differences.

There's a lot saying they've high overlap and could be a continuum. But I feel Avpd is way more severe and pervasive in its effects you know?

But to me there's some difference because supposedly CBT works for social anxiety but is far less effective for AVPD.

My last therapist told me after our first session that I don't have AvPD, even though I was professionally diagnosed with AvPD no less than three times.

I feel like in the end, she did more harm than good because she didn't take into account the AvPD and didn't realize just how deep certain issues went. (Maybe it was partly my fault as well because I was not 100% open/honest with her but if she hasn't branded me as "only" socially anxious, she might've picked up on that.)

Remember the DSM was updated. It could be that you met the guidelines previously but currently don't.

If your therapist isn't working for you - and clearly this one seems not to be - you don't have to continue with them.

In the end, the label doesn't actually matter. What matters is finding a treatment that works for you. Good luck with your journey.

I think its also our timing, Break.

I know going back after a long break or in your case a new psych... we're going to be in a somewhat calm state just to get a reading on them and importantly not allowing them to see us at our worse, until they have seen us at our best.
