I identify myself both with avoidant personality disorder and schizoid personality disorder and the cause for both is the same: fear of judgement, childhood traumas, propensity to anxiety.... I was wondering how common is this.
The emotional emptyness, the daydreaming, the laziness, being numb and sort of dissociated. |

I've been diagnosed with BPD but I believe I might have AvPD as well (or maybe traits?). My T doesn't, but I think people don't understand AvPD. Actually I wish I didn't have it and wish he was right but I'm afraid he is not. Even though I seem relatively social, but there is this constant feeling of inadequacy, of shame, hard to describe. Sure, it can be present in BPD too, I don't know. I've been afraid to live, been living in my head, have all these fantasies of a life I'll possibly never have. Also very afraid of being embarrassed and ridiculed and do everything to avoid that...I hate that.
I've read that BPD and AvPD often coexist. |

I am diagnosed AVPD with BPD "traits" and PTSD. Everything I've read indicates that there is a high degree of comorbidity (as much as 60%) between the personality disorders.
Some of the symptoms you describe suggest PTSD or CPTSD might be issues for you as well. |

It's pretty common for trauma survivors to minimize what they've been through in order to cope. Family and friends often reinforce this minimization by telling survivors that they're "too sensitive" and that others have had to deal with worse. Feeling unloved and chronically hurt is very serious for a child and can have lifelong consequences. I hope you have a good therapist you can explore these issues with if you choose.

Avpd with bpd traits. Someone said to beware of labels others give me. A psychiatrist said this to me.

I read through half of Valerie Gaus’s book Adult Asperger’s Syndrome before realizing.. that the syndrome itself is not what can be debilitating but It is the the co-morbid disorder(s) that inhibit enabling normal function. Sound confusing, yes.
