The last 15-20 years I have fought this avpd without realizing it. Just had a thought here the other day, what about just accepting life as it is, that I generally dont like people and want to be left alone? What about not trying to be liked at all, if I dont like to talk, just **** it and dont talk. I have no friends and everyone I meet I feel I have to do the forced boring smalltalk which I am fed up of! WHat you guys think, anyone here that have approached life/people like this?

Yes, that's pretty much what I do now. I stopped making an effort years ago. Life got much easier when I accepted I am an introvert.

"Not liking people and wanting to be left alone" is the hallmark of Schizoid Personality Disorder. What differentiates AvPD is a desire to connect with people but an inability to do so.
I tried to "become more avoidant." In the end it made me severely suicidal. I almost lost the battle. Proceed with caution. I don't like small talk either, and generally refuse to engage in it. Unless there's weather phenomena, because that kind of fascinates me. Because I insist on having real conversations, I have a reputation (cringe) for being a good conversationalist. Next time you run into someone, try to actually talk to them. Tell them how you feel about something instead of simply acknowledging it. Might make all the difference for you. |
