To me, this idea:

I hope I do not come across as insensitive; I feel badly for those who suffer. The idea of gaining comfort from other people's pain seems bizarre to me, and the fact that it's the same pain I'm going through doesn't "mean" anything to me, and I don't know why it should. All I know is what they're suffering is horrible and I hope it stops for them soon.
