Welcome to a safe place to talk about avoidant personality disorder issues:

Avoidant Personality Disorder

This forum is for people (or friends, or family members) with Avoidant Personality Disorder. It is not a place to discuss "avoidance" in interpersonal relationships, or other relationship or communication issues that are not directly associated with this disorder. Please use the Relationships and Communications forum instead.

Thanks.

Enjoy,
DocJohn

Just saying "hi." My name is Sunnye and I'm new here. I have an avoidant personality and I have had it for most of my life. It hasn't been fun. No conflict, please...hee, hee(for real, though).

Hello everyone. Just found this site and low and behold...they finally give me an answer for "what's your damage?"....that annoying question. AVPD...I'd never heard of it before but the write up sounds just like me.

It's been a long while since I've been around. I've thought most of my problems have been related to depression, but the depression is most likely stemming from avoidance - therapist isn't saying I have a disorder (yet), but it is something valid & something I probably need to deal with.

Thank you for providing another resource for healing

Where can I go to talk to someone about this disorder?? I have never heard of it before and I'm not diognosed with it but I don't share my feeling with many people so it would be unlikely that anyone really knows what my problem is. I was reading up on personality disorders and Apd sounds like me...

I hope, and expect this forum will be of benefit to all of us who share this APD burden...or challenge, and to start things off, coz I'm new here, I just made up a joke: "How do you clear the room of APDs?... Don't say anything, just glance at them."
Sorry, but I find that humor helps to lighten a serious malaise. And if you take offense to this, I'll leave, and you will never hear from me again.

I haven't been technically diagnosed with that, but my counselor thinks its a strong possibility. Looking at the criteria, it would make perfect sense to me! I have caused myself a lot of problems because of this.

Gonna have to check out that article. Sounds like part of my problem is this one here. I do this with certain things in my life and I attribute it to fear of rejection and loss. Sometimes I do it when I know I'm right but I also know facing the person is only going to cause me more loss until I have all my ducks in a row and can show them the documentation. It is based on real experience with them not caring at all about me, but wanting something from me nonetheless. Yes, I'm being vague on purpose so as to avoid giving too much away. At least I can laugh about it sometimes.
