I work in healthcare. I have been off work for two years as a result of a major meltdown which was refractory to treatment and subsequently lead to my bp diagnosis.

Prior to my meltdown, I was working in healthcare administration for two years. Prior to this, I was a clinician. So, it has been four years since I have done frontline clinical work.

We are in the process of moving for my husband's new job. Last week I applied for a clinical position, as there are no management jobs available.

I was nervous about the interview, specifically how my mind would work. I have not thought much about work for two years because of the illness. I certainly haven't thought about frontline clinical work for even longer. I still have word finding difficulties and sometimes my voice trembles.

I only had one day's notice of the interview, which was today. I did prepare as best as I could, wondering if my mind would kick in like it used to.

Today my brain performed for me, when it mattered most. I am astonished. I was able to retrieve examples from long ago, articulate my answers, throw in some humour.

I am lying here and cannot describe the emotions I am feeling. It has been such a long struggle. It is the first inkling that I have had in two years that maybe I will find myself again.

And by the way, I got the job!
