Thought I'd put this here instead of in work and careers because you folks are the ones I'd most like to share this with. After three years of unemployment, I landed a job this week. I'll be working with people with developmental disabilities, work I've done before and really enjoyed. I even got hired back on with a company I worked for 10 years ago. I'm very excited and of course a little nervous, both because of the long (involuntary) break and because I know change, even positive change, can be triggering. But I've got great support and am really looking forward to drawing a paycheck again. .

You are going to do just fine. Try to breathe and take everything one step at a time. Paychecks are nice too.
In my student teaching, I most enjoyed working with developmentally delayed and disabled kids. It's not easy, but it can be immensely rewarding.
Best wishes.

Thought I should post an update. Ironically the company I was going to go to work for closed their local office while I was still in training, putting me and a number of others out of work. Two silver linings though: I am still working with voc rehab and am confident I'll get another job soon, and I'm handling the closure-- which could have been a big trigger-- without too much trouble. Upward and onward!

I'm sorry that happened but I'm glad you are handling it well.

And here's a hoot-- I just got a call from Voc Rehab a bit ago about a job coaching position that's available. The online application's done.

I finally have a job (that's not going to go away .) Yesterday I was hired as a job coach with Goodwill. It's similar to work I've done before and I'm really looking forward to it. This is a whole different world than January 2014 for me.
