I’m extremely prone to akathisia, but as I get constant psychosis need to be on an AP. Least likely/most likely meds to cause akathisia?

I'm prone to it, too. And movement side effects (trembling upper body, hand tremor).
As much as I dislike Seroquel, I will say that it caused the least akathesia/movement issues for me. The worst was Abilify. I had akathesia on Abilify that was some of the worst sensation I've ever felt.

Seroquel or Seroquel XR. I have never had akathisia from them, nor has either ever caused me other forms of EPS or hyperprolactinemia. My psychiatrist also told me that Seroquel is the best in these respects, not that it is impossible for them to cause them.
I find Seroquel XR to be the most friendly of the antipsychotics I've taken. Not that it didn't/doesn't cause other side effects. It can be a weight gainer and super sedative for many, but those side effects have eased for me. The most problematic Seroquel side effect for me is elevated cholesterol, and sometimes elevated blood pressure, triglycerides, and glucose. I try to reduce them with diet/exercise, but have recently also needed medication for them. I am heading towards 50, so age is a factor, too. The most akathisia-inducing meds I have taken were Geodon, Zyprexa, and Abilify. A few others I took caused dystonia (i.e. Navane/thiothixene) or hyperprolactinemia (Risperdal/risperidone and Invega/periperidone). A couple others had different issues. |

Soupe, what are the meds you've been prescribed for elevated triglycerides?

Just took my blood pressure and it looks MUCH improved (119/77 and 72 bpm), and also so far no side effects. I wonder how much is the blood pressure medication and how much stress being alleviated, as of yesterday. For blood pressure, I take generic "Irbesartan 300 mg" (brand is "Avapro"). I'll keep tracking it. Last edited by Soupe du jour; Nov 19, 2020 at 02:52 PM. |

Initially I had terrible akathisia on Seroquel, but now I have NONE because I take Gabapentin, which ameliorates that side effect.
