It seems to me that almost all psych meds have withdrawals. If I miss even 1 dose of any of my meds I will feel weird (brain zaps, lightheaded, kind--of sick). In the case of meds I use for sleep I just won't sleep if I skip taking them. Of course, the benzos are the worst.

The only one I recall having any sort of malaise from, after missing ONLY one dose is Seroquel or Seroquel XR. If there was another(s), I don't remember. Could have been.

The issue with my Seroquel XR is that if I miss it, I don't sleep. Not at all, or at the very best an hour or two of terribly interrupted "half sleep". Sometimes I feel quite good, initially, but the bad and ugly of missing it shows itself quickly. My mood then quickly elevates, and usually does so with brutal anxiety or mixed features. In the end, I take it. Not taking it would equal inpatient, most likely.

There were a couple times I attempted to skip my Seroquel XR because of international travel, need to get up extremely early, or one a "sleep deprived" EEG. Again, in the end I eventually took it, or at least took a baby dose. My normal doses have ranged from 550 mg to 800 mg over the past 10 years, or so. A "baby dose" to me would be 50 mg or 100 mg. So little does not help me sleep, but takes a little bit of the edge off. No, I need the higher doses to remain stable. I will say that if my mood is elevating even on doses like 600 mg or more, adding only 50 mg to 100 mg can make a notable difference. Generally, those are the increases/decreases my psychiatrist makes, when needed.

If I miss one dose of Effexor or Trileptal, I definitely feel an effect. The others, not so much. I've skipped Welbutrin several times and no problems (I didn't do it on purpose, the second dose I skipped bc I forgot to bring it with me when I left the house). I've skipped Abilify without a problem too.

So Sorry that things are not being too easy! i agree with the other wise and wonderful posters about there being other meds with some potential withdawals in case of missed doses. i think it is wise to be careful when taking them. Personally i did skip a few doses sometimes but i don't have bipolar and it was a very low dose so it didn't have much effect on me or at least i didn't notice it. i think that with bipolar and at higher doses withdraw can have some bigger side effects. Please do try to be careful and definitely talk to your pdoc and doctors to see if there are "lighter" meds. Please do not give up. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Miguel'smom, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

I was put back on prozac a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't make me sick when I don't take it but H is on top of it.

have you ever considered Emsam? (I'm sorry if i've asked you this before). It's an antidepressant patch so nothing to swallow, just a patch to change daily and depending on the dose some food restrictions. It really works well for me and has without pooping out for 11 years now. Other ADs always failed for me sooner or later, usually sooner.

No I haven't, Emsam hasn't been offered. I don't know why probably because it a MAOI? I keep getting put on the same meds over and over again. They're not working but they just don't know what to do at this point. If/when they switch my AD I'll ask about it. I just looked up the cost I doubt my insurance would approve it.

I get it free from the manufacturer because my Medicare doesn't cover it. Not all doctors will prescribe it because of the MAOI thing but it's a really good med if you can get it.
