I started out on a low dose, 75mg. regular. I noticed more energy and clarity within a week. That I wasn't falling asleep all day was uplifting in itself.

Gradually increased to 100mg., after about a month 200mg. 200mg. is the lowest clinical dose. The side effects I noticed were occasional nausea that wasn't terrible and didn't last long. After several days on 200mg I had an almost complete loss of appetite.

Tomorrow I'm starting on 150mg. XL. Apparently it's standard to begin on the regular Wellbutrin before moving on to XL.

So I'll say that I felt an uplifting about a week in. But- it's important to know that I also take the AD Pristiq (50mg.).

Okay, thanks! They started me out on 150mg XR, which is the lowest available dose where I am. It's either that or 300mg XR. Apparently I cannot get the immediate release version here. So far it's made me very dizzy and my blood pressure has gone up 20 points. I've also had insomnia and now I'm starting to get really irritable, although I'm not sure if that's due to the bupropion or the lack of sleep. I'll give it a few more days but I'm not sure this is a keeper for me.

Ah - I will tell you that I felt quite irritable a few days in. I thought No way will this be okay. It was like a manic irritability/anger. I really worked with it, made myself stop and breathe deeply, "count to ten"...the irritability has subsided. I don't feel it at all now. Hopefully my body was just acclimating to the Wellbutrin.

Thanks, I'll give it a few more days to see what happens. Hopefully the insomnia will subside as well. Last night I slept badly despite taking both Seroquel and lorazepam. Right now there's no change in effects yet. The irritability is gone, I think it was due to the insomnia rather than the bupropion. I'm still really dizzy, though, and even more tired/confused/unable to concentrate than I was before the bupropion. Also, the high blood pressure is a serious side-effect that's definitely not worth it to me if there continue to be no positive effects from this drug. It's weird how much the effects of these meds differ from person to person.

Yes, it is weird and, unfortunately, shows how little is known about what makes mental illness what it is.

High blood pressure is definitely not worth it. That's what Seroquel did to me, and now I'm on bp medication. *sigh*

Sorry to hear that, it's definitely a bad tradeoff. I've decided to call it quits with the bupropion because of the high blood pressure and tachycardia. I was actually starting to get chest pains. That along with the insomnia, dizziness, anxiety, and worsening depression. I guess it just isn't the med for me. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Well, good news, ECT is finally going to happen. It should be a matter of a few weeks from this point before I can start. I thought I would feel happy but I don't really feel anything, I guess that's the depression. Still, I'm glad that I can finally move forward. I hope it will work.

Oh, FluffyD!!!!! That is GREAT news! I'm genuinely happy to know that your treatment is moving forward. I agree, btw, that depression surely figures into your lack of excitement.

Please keep us posted as to when your treatments will begin - and of course, how they're going for you
