Here is a description of the ECT procedure which might prove useful to someone considering it.

Thank you, Daonnachd. That's a good, straightforward narration of the basics of ECT. __________________ |

I know that a few months back I shared it with a few different individuals here but I can't recall whether I shared it in the forum. Either way, here it is.

It's a well written piece on ETC, Daonnachd. Thank you for sharing. I can relate to the actual treatments, themselves, though I confess I stopped receiving them after number 7. I, too, went inpatient for them, except for the first which was outpatient. I rejected the suggested maintenance treatments that you have had many of. Sometimes I wondered if I should have had at least some maintenance ECT, but it worked out OK for me, in the end, without them. Having someone to take/be with me on ECT days was also a consideration, even though I literally lived walking distance to where they were administered.
I do find it curious how/why you have had maintenence treatments for so long. You're the only person I know whose had so many. Is it that your depression goes on and on? Did you attempt to stop them only to find you needed them again? I think before you the most I ever heard of a person having was 20 in any given string of them. |

Sdj, thanks for taking the time to read and engage with it. With regard to the duration of my maintenance, some people simply need ongoing treatments. I happen to be one of them. When we've tried to stop I've dropped back into an episode. Even stretching the interval out to 6 weeks has been impossible.
