I'm really needing to know what that woman's credentials are to practice psychiatry. She sounds way too black and white, like her knowledge is from a book, not from direct experience with patients.

So yes, a D.O. can specialize. If the chick I saw is a D.O. with a specialty in psychiatry she should re-examine her life plan to do something she's actually good at.

You can be a terrible doctor with fabulous credentials or even a good doctor with terrible credentials is my belief. Have seen this happen.
As a bp2, I take wellbutrin with a stabilizer, adjusting the dosage as needed. I cant take antipsychotics. I would rather be a little hypomanic rather than a little down and that seems to be what it comes down to for me. Trying to hit the exact center of the spectrum on a regular basis has proven to be too difficult. Add stress to the equation and phew, it's complicated. Doing self care like aerobic exercise, avoiding toxic patterns and situations, etc are hugely important for me. __________________ Bipolar 2 with anxious distress mixed states & rapid cycling under severe stress tegretol 200 mg wellbutrin 75 mg, cut in half or higher dose as needed Regular aerobic exercise SKILLSET/KNOWLEDGE BASE: Family Medical Advocate Masters in Library Science Multiple Subject Teaching Credential-15 yrs in public schools |

I agree - it's healthier to be a little bit hypomanic than to be depressed and anxious. It seems to me that the world of pdocs doesn't agree. I wonder how they'd feel in our shoes? __________________ |

Hi FluffyD, Well, I'm stuck with that icy pdoc for now (and telehealth). Hopefully the clinic will soon begin setting up appointments with the psychiatrist they've hired.
Icy pdoc still insists that no one with bipolar 1 is EVER prescribed antidepressants. I figure whatever...let her think what she wants to. If she thinks I'm bipolar 2, fine. She's refilled my AD prescription and even increased the Wellbutrin. At this time I certainly won't strive to have a good relationship with her, I'll just use her to prescribe. Thanks for asking! __________________ |
