Has anyone ever crushed Xanax XR and taken it? Please share your experiences. Thanks!

That IS taking it as a street drug...You should know better than to ask questions like that here....Meds should be used as therapy, not abuse...If I was an asshole I'd report this post.

I'll assume this is a legitimate question, since my doctor recommended I crush Ativan if I need the effect sooner (it can take 60-90 minute to kick in fully if swallowed whole). You don't want to crush any extended release medication, defeats the purpose and I imagine could set you up for an overdose, although I'm not sure about that. If you feel you need an effect sooner, ask your pdoc about it -- maybe she or he can give you a supply of regular low-dose Xanax or something else.

Never crush an extended release medication. It will mess with the time release of the drug for one and I don't know about any other harm it may do.
