I don't consume that much coffee, but I am feeling rather 'amped up after having two big cups. Since I am experiencing hypomania right now, I wonder if the condition is exacerbated by the caffeine. Does anyone have an experience like this?

Oh yes - I can't even have a glass of iced tea, etc... even sugar

It effects me into a hyper and I moved about fast

BUT I become a very agitated person - who is very very ugly - I feel like a totally inside like a demon or something.

Yet, I still ABUSE myself with the posion of caffeinee

Makes me mad too - WHY I CAN JUST EVEN EAT LIKE OTHERS

Yes, caffeine does make me feel high and giddy after drinking it that is why I avoid coffee and just have decaf. Same for Coke or Pepsi.

Even one cup makes me get shaky and hyper and then I can't sleep at night.

When I am depressed, it gets me through my day, but then I can't sleep at night because it give the racing thoughts a chance to start up again.

I know it's bad stuff for me and I plan to cut it out, just as soon as I see the pdoc and get some meds. June 11 can't come fast enough. I've been waiting since March

Oh by the way, I have the same reaction to sugar.

Thanks BNLS and Zen,

It is good to know that you have an up reaction to coffee, as well. I had no idea that it could worsen my hypomanic response, but it did. I almost phoned 911 this morning because my hypomania got so bad that I started feeling paranoid. Luckily I had some seroquel on hand to take. Between the seroquel and some personal introspection and talking, I was able to talk myself out of the high. No more coffee for me as of today, I can't handle feeling all out of sorts like this again.

sign me decaf,

Slick

I always assumed that the reason why so many people drink caffeine is that it brightens their mood and makes them think faster.

OHHHHHHHHHH.... maybe not.

My hubby said he always wondered why I had a mood switch every time I drank it. I become cheery and talk a lot. Then a couple hours later I am back to the pre caffeine state. It doesn't have any effect on my sleep.

I was hypomanic when I returned to work after maternity leave, but I drank the coffee anyway. It got rid of the horrible anxiety I was having...so weird.

You can always tell when I am getting depressed because I drink more coffee than usual. When I am hypomanic I drink less because it takes so little for me to get the self confident euphoric effect, and I don't need the jitters too much coffee brings.

To tell you the truth, I think the effect is unique to each person.
