I've been off meds for the past 3 years. Has anyone been off meds that long, if so how have you been doing and do you feel you should be on meds?

I only got dx'd a few months ago. But I've been on meds only during the past year. I survived 29 years before that with only one brief stint with Paxil when I was 20 that made me psychotic manic, hence my avoiding of all meds until it became unbearable last year.

Perhaps someday I won't need meds, but I do need something to make it through this difficult period and I'm doing all the diet and exercise and therapy and it doesn't help the mood swings at all. That's just my experience.

I'm glad you've been able to get off yours and be okay.

Thanks thinker
Sometimes I feel like I need meds then the other 80% of the time I know I'll be fine.
But, hope all goes well for you and maybe someday you can be med free.

I was off meds for just about that long. I had the mood swings but felt like I was handling things well. But I have recently decided I wasn't doing as well as I thought and could be so I am going back to being on meds. I'm not fond of the whole thing but if it helps then it will be worth it. If not ill probably stop and deal. All I know is I have time to figure it all out.
