wants to put my 17yo daughetr on Effexor when she had a terrible reaction to Zoloft? She's Bipolar 1, rapid-cycling, psychotic when manic and suicidal when depressed with the depressions lasting longer than mania.
She's also on Lamictal, gabapentin and Abilify.
effexor scares me a little, but the depression is bad right now.

Effexor is a different class of drugs than Zoloft. I am no doctor so that is all I can say to help.
Best wishes for your daughter's recovery.
It is nice she has such a supportive mom.
Wishing both of you strength.

I was taking Zoloft and it quit working for me. They changed me to Effexor and frankly, I like it a lot. It not only works on seratonin, it works on norepinephrine. It's not an SSRI, it's an SSNRI. My depression was bad and it pulled me right out.

I'm on Effexor and Lithium, the Effexor in very low doses. Still when I started taking it, I couldn't believe it. After day three I woke up and felt wierd. The i realized it was that for the first time in my whole life, I was not afraid. Together with my lithium, I have been more stable than I ever have been, and I feel like I have finally become a human being. Just make sure that she doesn't run out, because the effects of coming off straight are nasty! I thought I was having a migrain when I forgt at couple of doses Still, I will take that aspect any day for the way that this medication has helped me take my life back. I really wish her well on journey through the medications. Post again and tell us how she's doing!
