I'm having an urge to spend and I'm trying to rationalize why I should spend. Glasses are half off and I haven't had my eyes checked in 2 1/2 years so I'm thinking now is the time. But the other part of me is saying don't do it cause I really don't have the money and it can wait till I get a few bills down. But the manic part is saying that the sale is a great deal! I know in my heart of hearts I need to resist, but I'm having a hard time listening to just myself. I mean, it's a SALE! Just tell me don't do it as there are consequences.

Thanks.

Don't do it. There is always some place having a sale on glasses when you have the money saved up later.

Did I mention they have the frames I want?

If I can just rip up the extra 15% of coupon then I think that will seal the deal for me not to do it. This is terrible.

Rip it up! Burn it! Put it in the trash under the dog doo!

Don't spend the money!

Save the purchase for your birthday. Don't make any decisions until you sleep on it for 24 hours.

After I was correctly diagnosed as bipolar, over spending and spending beyond my means had become a habit and it took me 4 years to break it. So it became want vs. need and still is.

Don't buy them!

I hear what you're saying Vickie... a want vs. a need. I need glasses, just not at this time, so I'm liking phoenix47's idea of waiting until my birthday, which gives me a goal till June. And when my birthday comes, I'll evaluate my finances again. The good news is in January I'll have vision insurance, so that will help.

Okay, I'm canceling the eye exam 'cause I know just going in for the exam will put it in my head that I need to get new glasses. But shredding the extra 15% off coupon will thwart any need/want/should at least for now. God, this is killing me. I can do this!

Vickie,

I needed this today as I just got another 15% off coupon via email today. Thankfully I resisted and deleted it. I could probably go on my mail server's website and get the email again, but I'm not going to even go there. You guys made me realize that now is really not the time.
Thanks for this!

I've been spending a lot since the beginning of September. I know I shouldn't, but I keep putting it on credit cards. I did have some cash, but still. I spent over $1,270 from Sept 1-9th. I spent around $560 yesterday alone (got my partner a pricey b-day gift amongst other things) and again over $1,250 since September 29 (I just realized! Didn't seem that high in my head). Some of it was school/tuition related and other necessities like gas but only about less than $400. I also loaned my partner $125 yesterday. I almost can't help myself these days. I've been manic since early August (or hypomanic) with a few days of depression here and there. To give you an idea of how much money each spree is for me, I only make $600 on average this year in a month!

So, as everyone has said, don't do it! The bills will catch up to me and they'll catch up to you. I buy things online too.

I don't know what to do. Once you start you almost can't stop, so keep on resisting!

CLIPP THE CARD!!!! It's Bipolar first aid! No luckily my parents were into the "no debts" thing so while I will happily overspend as long as I have money on the debit or in my hand, I get panicky (even when hypomanic) about credit cards. Never used one. AND BOY; AM I GLAD ABOUT THAT!!!!

It's very hard to stop spending, let alone clip the cards I've at least refrained from spending and hope to continue, but clipping the cards? I just can't do it. Sigh. I'm relying on willpower and the power of my antipsychotic and antidepressant to keep me in check. I also rely upon PsychCentral for support of which I am truly grateful for.
