Been getting painful surges of pain starting in my neck and running down my back into my arms causing my arms to go numb is this my disorder or could this be my herniated disc issues?

I've had the same thing. got really bad for a couple years. went to over 10 docs of all specialties, had x rays mri's and countless physicals. it was'nt until i sought help for emotional problems and was diagnosed bipolar that i started to make connection between the two. depakote ended all physical symptoms over night, unfortunately also sent me completely manic.
i think the anxiety and stress from bipolar cause the muscle tension which in turn pulled my spine and pinched the nerves. i have an x ray where you can see my cervical spine pulled straight. i'm on lamictal and has all but stopped the tension and numbness problem
then again that's me talk to pdoc about anti convulsants if your not on one already.

If you have confirmed herniated cervical disc, the pain and numbness probably id related to that more than your mental illness. I agree with rcsweep that emotional turmoil certainly can cause muscle spasms and that could be part of the problem but especially with the numbness you are feeling, it's likely related to the herniated discs. Again, this is assuming you have them, otherwise there are other physical reasons for numbness in the arms. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon.
