First of all, Yes, I have contacted my DR. but my brain seems to be over riding all of the medications. I even had IV meds but dissociated, but did not sleep. I go 2 days with 0 sleep, then will sleep the 3rd day for 3-4 hours of very un-relaxed sleep. I am exhausted, irritable (that's a little understated) and jumping at every noise. I'm an ultra rapid cycler so usually I can wait these things out, but I'm worried that I'll go psychotic. I certainly don't want to be hospitalized locally as they have the rule to stay in your room, with a room mate usually and how utterly miserable that you have to lay there. Laying down is also painful anyway due to my neck and back issues. Anyone found a way to find the manual turn off switch? I"M DESPERATE!

Glad you phoned your doctor. Have you ever tried Seroquel to knock out the anxiety and put you to sleep for a few hours, at least? Ask your psych about it. Good Luck!

I would say try xanax. It calms me down and can usually make me slow down enough to sleep a few hours a night. (That's when I'm manic, of course.)

trazadone works well for me. you've probably already tried a bunch of these meds if this has been a continuing problem.

a psych unit where you HAVE to stay in your room?!?!? find another hospital!

Seroquel should work for sure, xanax will usually allow me to slow down enough to sleep........unless I am completely manic, and then my eyes just pop around in my head and nothing helps. This may sound crazy, but lie on the floor, put a pillow under your head, one under your knees, play some really soft music, burn a candle, and begin to count as you breathe. do not worry about whether you are breathing through your mouth or nose, just take deep breaths. Create a "mantra" like "I am calm and peaceful" or "I release all thoughts that are going through my brain" and repeat it after you have counted for awhile. Try to start at the top of your head and relax every bone in your body as you go down to your feet. This has literally brought my blood pressure down 20 points. If you are really bad, you might want to take a xanax and then do this. Just remember, that this will pass. I know exactly how you feel.
Thanks for this!

cathylee, I do something almost exactly like that. In my head I call it self-hypnosis. Sometimes its the only way I get any rest at all. Great suggestion!

I'm going to talk to my Doc about something for night but with my chemcial thing I ususal wake up - but can't wake up All day - like my eyes can't stay open
