I am a very well controlled bipolar (dealing with side effects).
I have always hated winter in Indiana.
I lived in California until I was 13 and it didn't get cold or snow. I liked snow the first time I seen it. But that was it.
I know now it's part of my bipolar. So I deal until spring.
Thank you for letting me get this off my chest.

HI! I actually love snow, but we don't get so much of it until January, so the lon, dark haul into a Swedish december really stinks! I don't think that's only bipolar, or maybe everybody here is (sure explains a few things). Huggs. I can relate!

When it gets really bad it is known as seasonal affective disorder. Also known as the winter blues. It has been chemically proven that the less sun we get, the more likely we are to become depressed. Just food for thought!

I hear you owl... I live in the "snow belt" in Northeast Ohio and it's dreadful in the winter time. It's cold, gray, no sun, very little daylight... and I know a lot of the Northern states are this way especially in the winter time. It's very hard on the mood. And makes it really hard to switch in the spring time too (for me, at least last spring I was really hypomanic and irritable and agitated during April and May). I know some people with bipolar disorder who use a light box during the winter months. SOme docs are leary of this simply because there are studies that too much time in front of the light box can atually trigger mania. I haven't used it, but again, I have heard of people using it as a treatment to avoid the horrible crusing depression in the winter time. Good luck with the winter.
Thanks for this!

Hi Owl,

I have been a Californian my entire life. I don't completely understand the snow factor and how it affects people but I imagine it is like the rain.

I did most of my growing up in Indiana, so I feel ya on the snow. Now I'm in the "South" and apparently I've been here long enough to think that 40 degrees is COLD COLD COLD. Ugh. I need to convince my husband to move to Hawaii or something.
