There are times, especially recently, where even though I'm having a really hard time, I sort of tune out for a while and then realize it seems to me as though I've been feeling absolutely nothing the whole time.

Is this a stupid thing to say? Does it happen to everyone that there are just times in the day when nothing is going on upstairs at all other than observing the world dispassionately?

I am finding it really strange. I'm a total mess right now but during these times it's like everything is just shut off. I'm a zombie.

What do you think?

Not a stupid thing to say at all. I get that a lot (in fact it's a major feature) when I'm depressed.

I wouldn't say it's a stupid thing to say. I've been zoning out recently too, don't know if that's because of the meds or just a defence mechanism working. I do know that when i start feeling numb there's an aspect of my daily tasks i need to change. Heres to hoping you can find a resolve to feeling zombified

Agreed it is not a stupid thing to say. I have felt that way before... including today. I think it is a defense mechanism for me.

I did see soemthing when I was leaving PC the other day... about how BP is affected by Daylight Savings. I'm not saying this is the issue... but it sure seems like it may have done something to me.. just a thought

Hey there,

Definitely not a stupid thing to say. I can relate - I personally believe that I unintentionally (and intentionally, sometimes) "zone out" as a defense mechanism to avoid issues in my life. When I was on medication it was a LOT worse. Whenever this happens, I try to focus on something, whether it be a television show or my breathing. It helps to "ground" me back into reality.

I get that too when I'm depressed...I attribute it to the lack of concentration; I'll be reading or watching tv or something and kind of drift off. It is really frustrating because I know when I'm depressed I should try not to just sleep all the time, so I try to find something to do, but then I just can't stay focused on whatever it is I'm trying to do and end up wanting to go back to bed. Hang in there and I hope things look up soon!

Thank you all. It just surprises me how these periods of duhhhhh--ness can occur in the midst of a huge downswing in mood like turning off a tap.

So what do you think of this: sometimes when I get like that, I start to think maybe I should consider myself fine and maybe the whole mood swing thing is b.s. But usually it's not long before I'm off my rocker and I remember how little control I have over my emotions.
