I don't really believe in going off meds, but I ended up running out of money about 5 months ago and stopped taking Lamictal and Lithium (Tapered off). I continued taking meds for sleep which may have helped. I am completely shocked to find that I have been feeling no hypomania, no depression, no hallucinations, only my usual memory and concentration problems which are not severe enough to keep me from working in a complex area if I keep notes. I don't know what to think. I don't see the sense in starting up again now that I am working just so I am compliant. I need to find a new doctor since I had to move, but I have had "remissions before when I was without symptoms for years. My neurologist seemed to feel I have periods of remission from neurological symptoms, but I don't get how I could have been so sick for so long and now feel pretty normal! Anybody have this happen?

I wish. I've been in one episode or another since childhood (mostly depressed with scattered episodes of mania, hypomania, and mixed). If you've gone 5 months without taking anything but sleep aides and feel fine, I guess you don't need to be on anything else. If you do feel your mood slipping up or down, I would definitely find a new p-doc and get back on some meds. There are plenty of cases of remission for months or even years. You're one of the lucky few! I wish you all the best and that you'll stay in your current state if not feeling even better than normal.
