The pdoc visit went well. She assured me she understands it not my fault that I couldn't handle the other meds. She put me on dekakote. I'm to call her and let her know how things go.

I want to again thank all of you for your support and kindness. It means so much to me.

Glad to hear you saw your pdoc and things are on the upswing. Pdoc Visit and New Med
I wish you success with Depakote, some do well and others (like my nephew and I) do not do so well.
Like all meds., none are "one size fits all", so it just takes trying and patience.
If what my dimming memory serves me right, I think skin rashing and stuff was NOT listed on "side effects" for Depakote, that may be a plus for you, as I recall you having that reaction. What I didn't like about Depakote, for me, was weight gain and constant fatigue, fell asleep twice while driving, after that, even on the minimum dose my pdoc. agreed that I should switch to something else, that's history now. Pdoc Visit and New Med But it did help during the time I was DXed and first treated, back in 2000. So, it just boils down to trying, new or a combo of meds. till it is comfortable, I guess. Pdoc Visit and New Med
Jan, I am happy to hear things are looking good.
Take care and lots of luck too. Pdoc Visit and New Med

(((((((Jan)))))))) Good luck with your new med. Sometimes it takes trying all different ones until we find the right combination for ourselves. Depakote is one of the leading meds for bipolar. I hope it works wonderfully for you. Hang in there.

That's true, because it doesn't take as long as the other mood stabilizers to kick in, great for "emergency" cases when things can't wait.
My former pdoc told me when I was first DXed in 2000, that she was choosing it at the time, for that reason. This was at a time I didn't feel I needed any meds., or at least thought I didn't. I thibk I also had let things get too much out of hand before finally admitting to myself, I needed help.
I always wish everyone here lots of luck with their meds. and well being. Pdoc Visit and New Med
Sincerely,
DE
