I am new on this site. I always thought i had BPD but was diagnosed with bipolar disorder instead a couple months ago. tried abilify but got switched to depakote? today is a reallly bad day and ive been fighting with myself all day on how to make it better. i just would rather be in any state of mind other than this one right now. i dont know what i am expecting out of posting this other than maybe some ideas or suggestions on how to get over this.

It is always good to have more support. You can get a caring ear in this community. Sometimes we need to rant, ask questions or seek support.

BTW Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic while depakote is an antiseizure medicine that stabilizes mood. I have Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for a mood stabilizer and use Abilify to boost up my antidepressant, Cymbalta. Don't be surprised to end up on a combination of drugs.

Hi cocoa11 and welcome. You'll find lots of unconditional support here and lots of advice!

So, what kind of state of mind are you in? Depressed? Manic? I'm on Lamictal like Anneinside, and it caused some really bad depression until Wellbutrin was added to it. If you're on just a mood stabilizer, it could increase the depression. It's good that you've got an accurate diagnosis; that way you can get the right combo of meds.

You have come to the right place, there are many great people that will be here to help you out. The thing with depakote is it takes time to build up in your system. You will have regular blood work (should anyway) to check your valpuric acid levels to get to a theraputic range. I know it is tough but hang in there )

HI and welcome.
I hope your meds start working real soon. I'm also still working on an ideal med combo, and have found a mood stabiliser on their own to really make the depression worse. Hoping to have an anti-dep added soon.
Please bear in mind that the process of finding the combo that works best for you, may be a lengthy process.

But worry not :-) We are here to offer support and try our best to answer any questions
