My youngest has yet another virus with a fever and coughing. I have another sore throat, my oldest son is coughing and sniffling. Will these viruses ever end? I feel like pouring a giant bottle of disinfectant from the roof to the basement to get rid of these things, and then put everyone in sterile bubbles until summer.

Wow - you've been through a really bad run at the moment. Hoping it goes away as quickly as it arrived.

Any chance that this is proof to get back on the Lamictal? I know that it was working for you and at one point you were not sure if it was the Lamictal or a family "bug".

While bathing in Lysol would work... not very practical. Make sure though that you are washing linens like every day or every other day. This will help prevent re-contamination when everyone goes to sleep. Also, some lysol on telephones (cell and home) and doorknobs is also a very good simple thing that could help everyone out.

Make it a rule also that everyone wash there hands before going into common spaces, such as a silverware drawer or the refridgerator. This could help with cross-contamination. One other thing is to make sure that everyone in the house gets new toothbrushes. Probably already thought of all this, but hopefully it can get your family bug free.

Good suggestions, RRU. Also, cough into your sleeve or a tissue to catch the germs vs spread them around. I ventilate the house with fresh air if I can, or keep the heat low so as to not dry out the air.
Hope all are better soon!

It could mean that Lamictal wasn't the culprit, but within a week of stopping it, all my body and joint pains were gone. I might wait until spring or summer when everyone is healthy before I start it again if my p-doc agrees. I have been OK without is so far, but yes, my mood and energy level was much better when I took it.

I didn't think about the linens. We change them once a week, but maybe more often while the viruses are around would be better. Also, every year I forget about the toothbrush thing.

That does not sound fun! My next door neighbor has a something again, says he's has it for three weeks now, and was telling me this morning as he headed out into the cold and snow that his girlfriend has had pneumonia and bad stuff before that for six weeks!

Another tip: I put a bottle of hand sanitizer in every room (right next to the tissues and trashcan which I had moved within reach). Then there's no reason not to sanitize your hands right after blowing your nose. I also put one in my car and made it a rule that as soon as you got in the car (even before buckling up or turning the car on) that everyone sanitized their hands.... you can even put it on your hands and run your hands over a little one's. Seemed to significantly reduce germs at my house.

Ooh and I sprayed all toys down with lysol at the end of every day and then gathered the stuffed ones once a week and washed them in the washer on hot and put the hard plastic toys in a "delicates" bag and ran them through the dishwasher once a week.

I also made sure everyone in the household was on a multivitamin.
