So last month I told my Pdoc that I was numb and I was, but today I told him that I have have now had a lot of anger and rage. His advice was to go back up my Seroquel and Topomax. I said no. I didn't want more Seroquel. I keep hearing people moving away from Seroquel. And I feel like it is not doing much for me right now. It IS keeping me from being psychotic and having delusions and hallucinations and being manic, but it is NOT keeping me from having rage and sleeping. I stay up all night if I do not take 10mg of melatonin every night. So he said ok then let's move to risperadal. I have no idea how this is going to work for me.

My daughter takes it, but she has Tourettes not Bipolar and her rage is different than mine and she is not manic or psychotic. Just worried how it will work for me. So if anyone has used it or uses it please let me know what you think. I will still be taking 300mg topomax and 40mg Adderall everyday along with the Risperdal and be weening off the Seroquel.

I am hoping that is really helps for the rage. Please let me know if it has helped you. Or if you are taking something else that does. My pdoc was not very helpful today other than wanting me to once again be on zombie-like doses of seroquel that I was not willing to do.

I used both. Risperdal made me start to lactate. I couldn't stay on it. The seroquel was great- too bad I was allergic to it.

I took risperdal for a couple of weeks and it controlled my rage. I did feel like it had a side effect of increased depression for me though. Good luck!

I'm on Risperdal, viola, rage and angry voices GONE, but like moose said, lactating. Lactation is a bummer... I however think it's a small price to pay right now, besides it's not like I'm leaking or anything

Taking melatonin every night can be habit forming. But if it works, then who cares, just be aware that missing a dose of the melatonin can cause "wide awake" nights. As for Risperdal I've never taken it. Remember everyone responds a little different from each drug. Will never know if you don't try it. Make sure you have a "back up plan" for your anger or rage. Sometimes finding a safe outlet for that can be just as effective as taking a medication to control it, with no "side effects". Good luck, keep us informed of how this works out for you.

I take Abilify and I haven't lost my temper since I started it...and I had some scary rages (such as ripping out my husband's computer and throwing it down a flight of stairs). I mean, I hardly even get upset anymore, and I'm not numbed out either. No side effects. If Risperdal doesn't work, maybe you could try that.

I'm flying in here as a nube to the site but I'm a real psychiatrist and interested in the whole process of how a site like this can work. Dont know what you've been on, but although I like Topamax due to weight neutral/loss sides, 300mg is enough to make your mind foggy. Combining one effective, well tolerated med from the anticonvulsant side (Topamax, Depakote, Trileptal, Lamictal) with one from the antipsychotic side (Risperdal, Geodon, Seroquel, and Abilify) is the key. There is no way to know which combo will work for which pt...still mostly trial and error. However, in the long run, Lamictal tends to work best on that side. From the others, weight gain is often a killer with Seroquel and Abilify although if you can manage this side effect most folks prefer Abilify. Rage needs to be figured out in the context of source...meds tend to dampen the emotion but not eliminate the source, unless the source is random. If it is, then I sometimes get more ambitious with medicating and use additional meds. BTW, beware the Adderall, well known to cause rage, either at peak of the dose, or at the end (rebound). Peace
Thanks for this!

Hi Minah! I hope you enjoy PC, and you'll definitely be getting a lot of first hand experience from here!

Lara - I'm on Wellbutrin (As well as Lamictin) and have noticed my rage increase. Also my irritability and aggitation. And I am battling to fall asleep.
Please let me know what your pdoc puts you on.
