Well, I haven't been officially diagnosed with anything (to the best of my knowledge) except depression, but I've been wondering lately. I seem to have these times where I get really hyperactive and can't stop moving around and just very alert and doing everything quickly. When this happens I get headaches and burnt out really quickly. For the most part the depression symptoms do fit everything, but when I have these periods of hyperactivity I always think maybe my doctor didn't diagnose me right, and maybe it's bipolar. He only really saw me for about a month when I was having a extra bad depressive episode. I always have really, really long depressive spells with occasional hyperactive episodes that tire me out and make the depression part worse when it shifts back to that.
I know that you guys aren't therapists or psychiatrists, but I was wondering, does that sound at all like bipolar?

Is your dr. a psychiatrist ? And did you mention the hyperactivity? I never mentioned my hyper periods and was misdiagnosed for many years.

Yes, my doctor is a psychiatrist. And no, I never mentioned the hyper periods because they just started to come back. When I first started seeing him was right before I was sent to the hospital. I've seen him once since I got out. (He's rather good, so consequently rather booked. I was lucky to get in to see him in the first place.)

That was my pattern prior to being diagnosed. I agree with roxiesmom if you don't see a Psychiatrist I suggest asking for a referral. If you aren't already I would also suggest tracking your mood. I use this online one: http://www.medhelp.org/land/mood-tracker

Thank you, I'm going to use the MedHelp one in addition to the PC one that I do.

That mood tracker thing is really helpful. I've been using it a little over a week now, and already I can see a pattern emerging. Useful tool.

Hey Liz, know I'm WAY late coming to this thread. But is there any way you can see your doc again, or another one to get this cleared up?
Mood trackers are great. the PC one is really nice, another member posted an interesting one here: moodscope.com, I'm trying it out, its detailed and different. I'll look at the medhelp one too. Have you been noticing any patterns in any of this??? ((((Liz)))))

Yes, in fact I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow (sort of- long story).
Hmm... Moodscope.com. I'll have to check that one out! Not really, just occasionally I get really hyper and then it goes away in 15 minutes or so. And I always have a headache afterwards. ![]()

Didn't go very well, but that's normal. I found out that bipolar had been a possibility since the beginning!! But for some reason, the doctors never wanted to "label" me that way. The NP just put me down as "mental disorder NOS" or something like that. I'd rather just be "bipolar" and leave it at that!!
We also talked about how the Lexapro was making me insanely hungry and gaining weight, so she lowered the Lexapro dosage and upped the Seroquel. We'll see how that goes, since the Seroquel was partially what made me fall asleep in weird places. (Apparently that's a side effect of the Lexapro, too.) Thanks for all the support! ![]()
