I really do not have 100% trust with my P Doc. I cannot change docs..becuz of the type of program I am in.Nuts..huh???

Take care & please feel free to PM me at any time.

I'm not bipolar butterfly, but I'm a good listener and can offer hugs. ( And more importantly, smiles. )

I was only recently diagnosed as well. I'm still having hard times with it. But I've also been diagnosed with some other things too. So, I'm just now getting things sorted out!!

Butterfly

I don't have bipolar, just severe depression (and there is nothing to make me doubt that that is correct) but I'd like to offer my support as well.

I know what a mixed blessing a new diagnosis can be. It is a new label, and we do have to realize that we are not defined or categorized by a label, we are still all individuals and it is important that others realize that as well. It also tends to make us naturally feel as if we have a "new illness" along with a new diagnosis, but that is not the case, just a new way of describing the things that have already been going on, that you already have an understanding of.

On the positive side you can also simply think of this as a new "handle" that you can use to gain better understanding of what is going on and to give the doctors that same guide to help them in treating you better.

So somewhere in there there is a balance that will suit you.

And I think that being a member of this place is ideally suited to help you find that balance. So just remember to keep learning, keep questioning your doc, and always remember that we are here.

Hullo butterfly. I too was diagnosed for years as depressive (unipolar) until I was reassessed as bipolar during a hospitalization. It threw me off for a bit, as I really didn't know much about pb disorder. And I still haven't found an effective med regimen to stabilize it (in fact recently, it had been more unstable than ever -- a chain of events set off by high stress at work and a very bad reaction to a medication). Keep on truckin', though, luv. This page is a great place to learn from others with bp disorder, and coming here is how I started to get a grasp of the illness too. Ta. Cheshire Cat

Welcome butterflylady. I have been dx with bipolar for over twelve years now and went undiagnosed for years. I have gone through many combinations of meds to come up with the ones that work for me. If I can be any help please don't hesitate to ask. Again welcome.
