I am withdrawing from Benzo's and now totally off them. I am still unable to get sleep. In 2004 I was diagnosed as having Bipolar. I usually have 3-4 episodes in a yr. Bad ones when they happen.

One yr ago I stopped my bipolar meds. Now, I am questioning why I feel manic. I mean the benzo's may have a lot to do with it. I still need to safe guard myself tho.

I'm tired to a certain extent, but I never sleep. I might get 2-4 hours if I'm lucky a night. This has been going on for almost 60 days.

I have tried all the sleep hygiene that was suggested.

Next Thursday, I see the new pdoc. I am wondering if he will be able to tell if I'm bipolar again or just what's going on.

Medical doc gave me ambien to help me sleep. I don't want to take it just yet...

Idea? suggestions?
Thanks for letting me vent..

Lack of sleep in someone diagnosed having bipolar is usually not a good thing for such a prolonged time. If you were prescribed ambien, now would be the time to use it.

Not sure what you mean "tell if I'm bipolar again"...thinking you may be wondering if you are heading into the manic spectrum. Sleep is usually one of those things that goes out the window when I'm on my way up. What other symptoms are you having?

Racing thoughts, but was not aware of it until the T asked me. High energy at times. Irritable as heck! I'm not drinking which is good. I guess I think I can handle the no sleep is why I am so resistant.

I was thinking I was in remission.

We all end up relapsing to an extent from time to time. It's also normally required that we continue to stay on our meds, as this ensures we remain as stable as possible. I hope the new pdoc can help. If I was you, I'd really start taking the Ambien to get into a sleep pattern again, as the lack of sleep can be detrimental
Thanks for this!

Take the ambien - I'd be so happy to have something to help me sleep right now!
