I've been manic for the last couple of weeks. But I think I'm coming down now. Have had a few depressive episodes over the last few days.

Today, I was feeling depressed and anxious. I took a klonopin (.5mg) and about 20-30 minutes both the depression & anxiety went away and I felt like I did during my manic episode.

Anyone have a similar experience with klonopin? Thoughts?

I have never had a manic episode triggered by Klonopin. I'm on .5 mg, 3x daily (though I usually only take it when I need it, doctor said that was fine). However I do know someone who gets manic from any benzo, Klonopin included. Though he's never been diagnosed, he acts *exactly* like someone with Bipolar Disorder. So I think it is possible that the Klonopin made you feel manic.

Yeah benzos can do some weird things. Klonopin always takes my anxiety away (which is why I'm on it). But if I know I'm going somewhere where I need to be social and outgoing, and I'm feeling a little down, I'll pop a klonopin and I'm good to go.

I just don't want to become hooked because I do love that manic "euphoric" feeling so much. Though I've done some pretty stupid things & stuff I regret while in a manic episode, so it needs to be controlled.

It doesn't make me manic. It tends to be fairly sedating for me

I've had it as a sleeping aid in the past, and once I woke up the whole next day I was hyper, wired, paranoid, angry... It was like being in a mixed episode. Can't stand the stuff.

All I know is if you have been on it any length of time and decide to go off it......It is a very hard ride. I won't go into details but if anyone wants to ask any questions feel free.

I took one 3 years ago and became mixed/hyperactive. So....now I stay away from benzos. I take an antipsychotic for my anxiety.

I have been on Klonopin since 1997 and have not experienced any of this. It all depends upon how you react to medication. My pdoc recommends going off of the medication and then retrying it. If the same things happen, then not to back on it again.

Yes, it can cause this to happen. Everyone reacts different to every med. Keep an eye on it so that you can tell your doc that you feel this way after taking it. Maybe a lower dose may still help you and not push you to the other end.

I didn't read the entire thread so I apologize if I repeat anything but. Klonopin is the only med that I've ever taken that makes me feel "normal"
