what my actual diagnosis is and she said bipolar, rapid cycling, mixed episodes. As soon as she said it, I knew it fit. I don't know why I had this burning need to know, but I did.

I understand the need to know. I'm officially diagnosed bipolar NOS, but the more I learned about the different types of bipolar I started thinking I may be bipolar II ultra rapid cycling. I don't know why the distinction matters to me, but I'm going to talk to the pdoc about it, as its really driving me crazy to think my diagnosis is a bit off. Bipolar II actually really fits me, and I think the reason I'm currently diagnosed bipolar NOS is because I'm not very good at talking about my moods. I'm glad you got your diagnosis, though. Knowing for sure what's going on really helps!

It was important for me to know as well. For me it kind of felt like I was defenseless. I didn't understand the things that I was going through or why. After my pdoc dx me as BP1 however I was able to research it and finally understood the why and how. Even though it did not change the symptoms I felt empowered because finally there was a name to them.

Hi there I can understand the need to know and the importance of your diagnosis.
I've had manic depression 18years and I'm awaiting my new diagnosis, firstly because manic depression isn't a term used much nowadays and secondly because my anxiety and mood swings are ruining my life.
However the most important reason I want to know is to get the appropriate treatment started asap.
I'm so pleased you got some answers
Take care
JK

I'm glad you have a label for your illness. It makes it easier to know what your dealing with.

I am glad you got things straightened out with you.

I, too, was relieved to get my diagnosis because it explained so many things that I was experiencing.

I'm happy you got the diagnosis from your pdoc.

I was glad to get mine - it explained my whole life! I'm BP II.

I was also comforted to get a bipolar II dx. While I can't say that it fits me perfectly, it does explain a lot. And it's nice to know that I'm not simply lazy or crazy.
