Hi I'm also on that rollercoaster ride had the depression (amongst other mental issues) since I was 9 I'm 33 now,I've been a rapid cycler since I was about 17 but it hasn't been until now someone has thought hold on this lady could be Bipolar and have a personality disorder, honestly the *UK* doctors are so behind in mental health its ridiculous!
Just waiting for the 'official' diagnosis.
I would say every 30minutes to an hour my mood changes and I hate it especially when family are around and they start asking what's wrong, are you ok?
I already take valporate for epilepsy which is already a mood stabiliser but since I've had it increased I can't sleep too good.
Hope your treatment is successful and your cycles even out for you,I'm sure there will be more information about, perhaps using the search for medication and rapid cycling?
I've found a lot of info by using the search on here
Take care
JK

there is an ultra rapid cycling form of BP, but I've also found that meds can make my cycles more rapid and mixed if they are not properly balanced. Also have a look at Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) which can have really rapid mood changes.

I can go from hypomanic to depressed within a day. I think it is important to discern between depression and 'The Blues', and also consider the chance of it being a mixed episode

I tended not to have such short cycles myself. Mine tended to last a week or two, but I know I cycled that rapidly when I was on the wrong meds. I would recommend therapy for your mood cycling as well as looking at alternate medications.

Whoknowswhat, there is no such thing as "odd" or "normal" when discussing bp. ; P Traditional, DSM defined bipolar includes manias that last at least a week, depressions that last at least two weeks, and hypomanias that last at least 4 days. However, there are many bipolar people (including me) who can cycle faster than that. I can be up and down and up again within a day, but I also have had depressions that have lasted weeks-months.
