Okay, so, I feel okay posting this in here because honestly, this is messing with my mood and my anxiety.

I see a lot of people using that sign for if a post is going to be a trigger to someone, but my worries are revolving around how do you know when something is a trigger or not? Since anything you post could upset someone in some way, how do you know when to use that icon to say 'hey, this might upset you'?

I hope it's okay that I'm posting this here... I didn't know where else to post it... And like I said, I'm feeling anxious over this because I don't want to be upsetting anyone with my posts.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Hydrophobic,

I use it, if for instance it's to do with self harming, self injury, suicide, suicidal tendancies etc.... It's really your own judgement so please don't worry.... If it is a trigger people might ask you to add it or the Mods will add it for you ok!

It can be hard to identify what is and is not a trigger. Some thing which would always have the trigger icon are suicidal ideation (keeping in mind that suicidal intent and suicide methods should not be discussed on the forums,) past attempts, self-injury, descriptions of abuse, etc. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it, hopefully, it has given you some idea of the use of the trigger symbol. If you write a post and later decide that it should have a trigger on it or if the post is reported for triggering material then the moderators and admins can add one.

When you post something, all those icons that you see below? It's the red one with the black x.
