Since I left my house at 17 I've had problems with recurrent long term homelessness, unemployment (I go through jobs every 3 months), and general instability.
I've been on medication longer and am starting actual real treatment this Friday. I've managed to keep a job long enough for insurance to kick in. This weekend I'll be moving into an apartment. It's a horrible nasty place but it's what I can afford and I'm paying for it on my own. I think I'll get over that it doesn't have a bath room. Last week my Uncle took back the car he bought me and I've ben without transportation. This week I'll be fixing that. I feel really good that even though I got off to a late start I'm getting functional. I'm still have a ton of problems. I often feel overwhelmed. But I've made progress this past year and if my family isn't going to acknowledge it it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I still feel discombobulated after the confrontation around my car being taken away. I think me walking across Minneapolis, in my pjs, after a 12 hour shift, with as much stuff as I could carry was taken in stride. |

BRAVO!!! On many things here. Keeping your job & getting insurance opens up the door to getting way better treatment & help with your prescriptions & some therapy, if you choose.
Having a place of your own is no small feat/feet? either, even without a bathroom. It's YOURS, with your things, with a door you can lock & the rain can't come in on you. Getting started late is something a lot of us deal with, you are certainly not alone there. And yes, I still struggle, meds, moods, anxiety... We will certainly acknowledge what you've achieved here on this site. Sorry about the car, another opportunity for one will come when the time is right. Hopefully your treck across Minneapolis wasn't in the winter. ![]() Good luck& keep us posted. |

Good Job on getting and keeping a job for insurance to kick in! I too agree, that having insurance will help secure probably a better doctor so you can get the treatment needed.
I too have had problems keeping jobs steadily...but it seems that you are doing the right thing being self sufficent and getting an apartment and doing that without a car ![]() 1 question though....what do you mean the apt doesnt have a bathroom?? Arent all apartments required to? |

That is incredible!! I know what it's like to move up from homeless & moving from place to unreliable place to finally having a sense of stability! A job & insurance are my next steps on my journey, as well. So proud of what you've achieved & hopefully I'll follow suit soon!

Sleep well in your new place. You have overcome real obstacles to get where you are, well done. I hope that things continue to go well for you.
