My brother is in the hosptal again. He is biolar like myself but his meds don't work as well as they do for me. He is considering ECT again. I hope he does not get it. It messed him up for a long time after. He called me today and he is suicidal and homicidal. I feel bad for him. He drinks and he knows if he does not drink he will feel better but he does it anyway. He has been alcoholic for decades. There is nothing I can do for him and that sucks.

That does suck in a big way. The best thing you can do for your brother is to care and be there for him. You know what he is going through.

He lives almost 3 hours a day...when I was feeling better I could go see him but the way I feel right now I can't do the drive and should not be alone. If I was alone in a motel I am afraid I would drink...I am over 5 years sober right now. I don't trust myself enough to be alone.

I didn't mean psysically be there. I meant be available to talk with him on the phone or email, or however you decide to do it.
Congrats on your sobriety. |

I'm sorry that your brother isn't doing well, Popeye. Hopefully an effective treatment with minimal side effects can be found for him. I'm sure that he'll appreciate your call and concern.
Does he have any family or friends where he lives? If you want to visit him, perhaps you could stay with them so that you're not tempted to drink. I wish you peace. |
