Is anyone on this mood stabilizer/anti-epileptic who would mind sharing their experiences? I've recently started it, and it makes me very dizzy (like, I can scarcely walk in a straight line). I'm hoping this side effect will go away...

Thanks.

Hello! I am currently on 400mg of Tegretol (200 in the morning, 200 in the evening) for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. It was also meant to stabilize my mood, but it didn't help in that respect. However, it has worked wonders for my seizures, haven't had one in over a year.

I don't recall having any memorable side effects, which is odd because I am quite sensitive to medications!

I hope that this side effect goes away for you soon - if you're on this med for seizures, it can work very well.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the responses. I'm on the same dose as Melissa, 200 mg twice a day. The dizziness has subsided, but now I am hypersomnic. I've been averaging 14.5 hrs of sleep the past few days (split up into 10-11 hrs at night plus a 3-5 hr nap). I'm not sure if this is reason to go off of it. In a way it's kind of nice, since I've been down the past few days and I welcome this lengthy escape from the world. Though I also think the oversleeping may be worsening the depression...

I'm seriously considering attempting to fight this illness with therapy alone. Meds have scary side-effects, and do they truly make much of a difference?

When I was on Tegretol, I got really, really dizzy and then had double vision which made me nauseous and I ended up throwing up by crawling into the bathroom because I could see straight in order to wallk there.
