I just got full time at work and I'm freaking out a little bit. Everytime I get full time work my symptoms kick into full gear. Just scared because I don't want to get fired from this job as I have before because of my bp...Any suggestions?

Right now I'm full time at my job and I can really feel the effects of it. Truth be told I really can't handle it. I've been completely upfront with my boss. I've told her everything she wanted to know about my BP. In return she's been very nice about every 3 weeks I'll have 2 weeks in a row where I only work 4 days. You know your boss and her/his personality. Would they be open to discussion on this and letting you work fewer days when you need to? Also this only works if you are willing to talk about your BP. I've met many people who didn't like to talk about it.

Also don't forget to talk to your doctor about FMLA. I'm eligible for it because of my PTSD and BP. Basically if I have to take time off because of my disease it protects my job.

I can relate to how you are currently feeling. I too have been fired because of my bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, I had not been diagnosed for bipolar but only for major depression. As a result, I was either a manic maniac or debbie downer, with very few stable periods, and totally without a clue.

I admire your tenacious spirit. It shows that, with help from your doctor, and with the proper meds you will be able to handle anything thrown at you. Put your concerns out of your mind and walk in expecting to wow them from day one.

You should be so proud that you are continuing to work. In my case, I got so sick that I was forced to go on disability in 2003. It took two doctors and multiple drug cocktails before my illness was stabilized about 5 years ago. I am in the process of returning to school to pursue a degree in Social Work. When I receive my Masters, I plan on counseling those with mental illness in a faith based environment.

Good luck to you and please wish me luck as well. I am really nervous about this first step back to sanity.

My suggestion is try it and if you can't do it, go back down to part time.... at least you would've tried, right?
