My SO, who has bipolar II with very rapid cycling, has started taking this medication. He was on Depakote for many years, but started having side effects like tremors and hair loss. The hair loss he could live with, but the tremors really bothered him. With pdoc supervision he cut down, but the dysphoric mania increased. He is now on Trileptal.

It's been a rocky road but he feels pretty good about the results. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? Would love to hear. Thank you.

I've been taking it for a while now and I haven't had any side effects from it. I hope it works out him!

I'm on a chemically-related medication, tegretol. From what I've read, trileptal has milder side effects than tegretol, but it is also less effective. Tegretol supposedly is good with ultra rapid cycling (which I have), so I'd imagine trileptal would be as well, just not to the same extent. Is he on anything besides the trileptal?

He is going up to 900 mg on Trileptal and is weaning off the depakote. He also takes a thyroid medication and Seroquel. The Seroquel has been great. He is a type I diabetic, which precludes the use of some medications, and has had reactions to others. I think Tegratol was taken off the list because of his diabetes.
