My 2 managers at work know i'm bipolar and i have to tell them of any changes to my meds, just in case of emergencies or things, i dont HAVE to, but i have agreed to since i had an allergic reaction a while back.
I called in sick monday, because i had a job interview, and had to do a back to work discussion this morning, (just a formality) and another girl Jemma was in the room.
I said to my manager to write on my sheet that my medication for my ongoing treatment was adjusted.
We didnt say anything else about it, other than that.
Then as i was about to go home, it was just me and Jemma in the office, and she said this:
"Oh you look better, happy pills kicking in?"
I was just in shock...
I'm still not sure how to react on this.
the thing is, Jemma intimidates me, her mum knows a lot of my friends of friends, people i used to hang around with and her mum hates me, so if Jemma tells her mum it will be all round my town.
I dont know what to do.

Well, really what would she say? Her med was changed? They don't really know what med or why? so I would just blow it off....Except if you think your employer told her, because that's another issues in and of itself, since they can not disclose your medical info to any co-workers.

I'm sorry she said that to you... some people are so ignorant!

So basically my managers must have told Jemma i'm on medication for MI, but they're not bloody anti-depressants so if she is going to try and humiliate me she should have some bloody facts

My managers must have told her it was something to do with depression or bipolar, because she said 'happy pills,'
plus Jemma is in the office all day, she could easily look at the files.

Looking at the files....again a big no no, they are suppose to be protected information. Seriously, an employer can be sued!

maybe it was just random guess on her side...

next time, don't discuss your meds with crowds around though.

I'm sorry her comment bothers you so much. Some people are just plain insensitive. Know what you mean, even though the question is different.

I had one ex co-worker who wrote an email asking me what is
"1 + 1", to test my sanity.

Of course I was angry.

My reply went something like this :

Depends on what you are talking about.

1 + 1 = 2 (addition)
1 + 1 = 10 (binary)
1 + 1 = 11 (concatenation)

I don't know about the UK, but the comments about happy pills is pretty common here. Just the other day my GM walked by irritated about something, then came back a half hour later her chipper self. A co-worker made the comment "did she take the whole bottle of happy pills this time?" It was meant to be snarky but to my knowledge she is not on any medication.
