I have gained 10 lbs in just over 2 wks. I am kinda stable so I am afraid to change meds. Does anybody know if the appetite increase goes away? I am on Seroquel and Risperdal.

it doesn't go away. I'm on zyprexa.

I have found that drinking a lot of water/any liquid helps, though. You have to go the bathroom but you 'feel full'. I have a problem with overeating until I am absolutely bloated. I feel full, but its not enough! I'd try to stay away from too much juices and soda though.

Eating a lot of fruit after a meal helps too.

I was on the Risperdal and gained over 20lbs in just under 4 weeks.. My pdoc said "well you had a negitive reaction to it so lets start you on Seroquel XR.." I've been on the seroquel before and it did the same thing!!

I'm on both Seroquel and XR. The appetite doesn't go away and I need to constantly fight the urge to eat.
I'm always going "It's ridiculous - I just ate, so why am I still feeling hungry?"

I also found drinking a lot of water/*non-sugar* liquids helps too - an idea I got from my mom during her times when she was so poor there wasn't anything to eat.

If it is a side-effect you really don't want to live with then I'll suggest switching to something else.

I am on Risperdal now and I sometimes have bursts of hunger that I absolutely have to eat.I have gained a fair amount of weight. I used to be on Seroquel and I gained a lot of weight when I took that too. I also take Depakote which packs on pounds. In all I have gained 70lbs and I am very upset about it. (especially since I am not totally stable)

I'm on Seroquel and Epilim and I've gained abt 20 pounds. I've been slowly tapering off on the Seroquel so I'm hoping like mad that the increased appetite will decrease. It really sucks gaining the weight I have times where I'm literally incapable of controlling my appetite, so basically end up binge eating, it makes me crazy and I just eat whatever I get my hands on.

Im talking to my Pdoc about it tomorrow ... 25 lbs gain in 3-4 months ....
Im not even " stable" so im getting tot he point of " wjhy take this medication that makes me want to eat a hole in daylight if im not feeling stable at all"

Seroquel <~~~ Love //// hate relationship ..

Ps i do drink enotmous amounts of water daily in hopes of curbing my nonstop eating .. It helps a little .

Wishing you some Peace and a day of no nonstop hunger
