I took Depakote in the past without success as mood stabilizer and with substantial weight gain; discontinued. But it miraculously eliminated my migraines. It is FDA approved for migraine prevention in quantities that are less than psychiatric quantities (500 mg/day). I really want to get rid of migraines, but my BMI is pushing out of the overweight range and into the obese range, so more weight gain would not be exactly welcome. I am wondering if these drugs give you weight gain from the get go or only after certain dosage.
