Hey everyone ..

Im currently tapering off Seroquel to start Risperdal .. Im down to 150mg from 300 (dropped 50.mg over other day) and WOW am I feeling the differance .I knew to expect a rough spot ... and as funny as this sounds Im just happy so far im not heading towards hypo or full out mania . but meanwhile i just wanted to slap the world .. ugh .. so far I have been able to just bite my tounge ...

I had to go off Seroquel due to weight gain, metabolic issues and having elevated blod sugar.

Anyone taking Risperdal ? Good or bad ?

Thanks everyone

I am on 2 mg risperdal. Works like a charm for racing thoughts, intrusive thoughts and during my mixed states over the past 2 years. I felt effects within the first week which was soooooo nice.

I am having breakthrough episodes though, I have a dr. appt on wed to work on my med situation. I take it at night and by the morning I am just a little drowsy but its nothing that a cup of joe can't fix. My only complaint was it can make your breasts tender and it can even cause lactation. I had tender breasts in the beginning and as I tapered up and it went away. No lactation for me. Oh also, I was constipated when I first started and it went away as soon as my body adjusted. I hope it works out for you!

I am really curious to hear anyones experience with risperdal? (curious about libido, before, during)

I think I could totally deal with lactation if it worked, lol.

I was on risperdal for a few years - it was a long time ago, so I can't remember dosages etc. No lactation - but also no libido (then again I never have, so I'm not putting that on the risperdal).

Thanks for the responses ..

I know all psych meds have a laundry list of possible side effects .

For me at least is finding out what side effects im able to tolerate.

Seroquel xr for me had me gianing weight like crazy regardless of how strict i was on my diet . I have anorexia and have had it flare up over the years ,,earlier this year i was 120lbs now im 158lbs and i flipped out but early on in treatment with seroquel the fact it knocked me out was worth a little weight gain .. but now that my pdoc and i agree it is more metabolic sysndrome issue ,, we have decided on taking a test drive on Risperdal ..

I guess my rant for the day is ..... Seems every damn psych med has a truck load of sideeffects and we have to wade thru the mess to find the ones that we can tolerate .. unlike other illness's where the side effects arent as pronounced .

example: I have fibromyagia, been almost 2 years now , in the begining I was being tossed all kinds of pills to help with the pain ,, none of them honestly did a damn thing,. but I didnt have many side effects except the meds not working .

Wishing everyone a great day
