I have been taking Lexapro for year now and I never felt like it did anything. I started Lamictal 2 months ago and I have less depressive symptoms. I can't take SNRI's because Cymbalta made me hypomanic. I'm always fatigued even though I'm feeling better "upstairs" I think I need to switch SSRI's. Any suggestions or success stories?

I don't have any success with ssri's but what I have been having good success with is doubling up with mood stabilizers. At first my pdoc thought it was a doubtful idea. I am taking lithium along with tegretol and so far so good. Might be an idea for those out there having trouble with antideppresants.

I take Lamictal with Wellbutrin. It seems to work. Best of luck.

I was just curious have you had bad reactions to ssri's or were they just ineffective at lifting your depression? just curious because I am on an ssnri and I'm continuing to cycle...I'm curious to start on a mood stabilizer such as tergretol. Have you had any noticeable side effects from it? Is it necessary to do blood testing like you would need to with lithium?

Sheba, they make me very manic within week or two or I start rapid cycling. You get a blood test with the tegretol but they do the blood test at the same time I get my lithium levels checked, so about every three months for me. I had a few side effects from tegretol in the first few weeks. Nothing major, tight jaw, yawning. Now I don't notice any side effects. I've also been lucky with lithium, no weight gain, no noticeable side effects aside from slight hand tremors once in a while. I've been on lithium for 6 years and for me it is my go to drug.

I would also recommend Wellbutrin, although it's not a SSRI.

Me too, though just starting on Lamictal, so I don't know how well that part will work. The Wellbutrin has kept me out of trouble for quite a few years, though.

I am on Lamictal and used to take it with Wellbutrin. Right now- no Wellbutrin, I'm taking Klonopin instead because I am having some major anxiety right now.

My Dr. said Wellbutrin, though like Merlin said is not an ssri, is the most effective anti-deppressant to go along with Lamictal. Lamictal helps more on the depression spectrum along with being a mood stabilizer. So a different ssri (taken along with the Lamictal) may swing you into mania.

Wellbutrin is an NDRI: increases dopamine/norepinephrine. Dealing with fatigue, motivation, concentration.
