My pdoc just told me not to take the Klonopin whenever I drink so I just skip the night time dose.

I enjoy drinking every now and then, and she said it was okay as long as I didn't take that med with the alcohol.

I witnessed a drunk girl take 3-4 Klonopin in an hours time. She was perty much comatose for a while after that. Had to sling her over my shoulder and carry her to a couch.

Yes. Not sure what is up with it, but I agree. The more hypo I am, the more I want to drink. I am currently in a depressive state and I have no desire to drink at all.

On shift: might grab a drink before work if i know its gonna be a rough one.

Off shift: like a fish. October was real bad. Two nights in a row I started the night off with a Fifth of liquor, then drank the rest of the night. A typical bar night is $30-60 @ $2-4 a drink

Me too. I think it has something to do with inhibitions. When I am hypo, I want to lose inhibitions so I can have fun and be brave and social.
When I am depressed, I don't even really think about drinking.

I like drinking. I do it every couple weeks so as not to overdo it.

It's something I enjoy, but it doesn't mean I need to do it in excess.

Also it's funny, because I don't think my drinking is associated w/my moods...

I'm on 600mg Quitipaine (100mg below the maximum legal dose here in the UK) and I made the mistake of drinking pretty much every day. The toxicity of the meds mixed with the alcohol did take it's toll on me, and I have been warned if I carry on drinking I may cause bad enough scarring to require a transplant.

That's not to say I still don't enjoy a bottle of Hobgoblin ale (or 8 or 9) every now and then.

But yeah. Drinking with bipolar full stop can cause a lot of problems: including triggering episodes. It's the same with consuming large amounts of caffeine with bipolar or staying up all night: both can trigger full-blown manic episodes.

Hell no! I wanna drink all the time! It puts me in a more hypomanic state! The issue is that, right now, I'm going through a drawn-out episode, where I'm actually hypomanic, but hiding it well. LOL

My fave drink - Captain and Coke - makes me a little more manic than beer does, but I'm able to at least stay at home on the comp and not freak out (which is what I wanna do). I want to go dancing to electronic music every time I start drinking Captain and Cokes, and that's why I like them so much - they exascerbate the state that my antidepressants put me in.

I'm not a big drinker .... Only really drink in social gatherings & such. Maybe a couple drinks once every couple months maybeee. When I was hypo manic a few weeks back I was drinking everynight and it kept starting earlier. Now I'm in semi -depressive state, I have no desire to drink. In fact I have the 1/2 bottle of absolute in the house from a cple weeks ago untouched lol.

I love to drink, but I've been taking it easy since starting new meds. And I was starting to get worried about how much I was drinking.

Occasionally I've kept the drunk on for the better part of the day when depressed as a way out of it, not that it works that way (makes me more depressed the next day.) But yeah, when hypomanic, I drink a lot - maybe a bottle and a half of wine in an evening, without any help. I also don't really feel it quite as much. It's as though my tolerance to alcohol magically doubles when my brain goes haywire.

The alcohol-mood swing correlation is pretty strong for me. I've been a teetotaller for big chunks of time in the past when my moods were pretty much stable - just didn't feel any need/desire for alcohol. I've also made a straight-up trade of alcohol for pot in the past; the latter is far less dangerous for me. The big problems started to arise when I started mixing drugs, alcohol, and mood swings. But even I could see that was a problem, so that's when I went to get help.

I used to drink WAY too much for WAY too long. I ended up masking a depression (not that I realised this). When I quit drinking completely in August the depression was, let's say, unmasked - urgh. That was followed by hypomania and then some cycling.

I was not on any medication before August.

I've set myself the goal of not drinking at all for at least 6 months. Then I'll reevaluate whether I'll introduce it in serious moderation. One thing's for sure - it can never again be the way it was.
